I think Captain America should be collecting Agent Coulson trading cards.

If all of my email was spontaneously converted to physical mail and then dropped over me, I would likely be crushed by the weight of it.

Scientists turn skin cells into beating heart muscle

Scientists have for the first time succeeded in taking skin cells from patients with heart failure and transforming them into healthy, beating heart tissue that could one day be used to treat the condition.

Q
As much as I like piperidine, it isn't really responsible for the spicy pepperiness of pepper, it just smells like it. It can be extracted from pepper in vanishingly small quantities, but it's actually piperine to which we should attribute the sensory delights!
A

Ah yes. I seem to have been careless with my phrasing. The piperidine motif is present in the compounds that give pepper its spiciness, including piperine. Thank you.

Do companies not realize that forcing us to watch their ads before a movie clip only breeds irrational hatred of their products?

I’d advertise differently…

What is the difference between potatoes and blue jeans?
Not much (:
(But enough that you can’t eat one of them)
That’s my ChemDraw, but I put it on the internet, so do with it what you will.

Scientific Legacy
Even our current greatest achievements have roots that extend to rather silly places. We’re sending things to Mars. How do we do that? We use shuttles and rockets. Those can only get into space with the help of liquid rocket boosters. How do we transport fuel boosters? By train tracks. Have a guess to what the width of a train track is based on? Yup. Chariots. So, essentially, the root of our space program comes from the view of two horses’ asses.
I really wish that I could take credit for this, but it’s adapted from an introductory slide by my favorite professor, Dr. Brandon English, potions master.

This is my favorite part, besides, you know, the whole movie.

I am officially done with my last potions class and alchemy degree.

Piperidine
The motif in compounds that give black pepper its spicy-ness. It’s also my favorite basic nitrogen compound  (;  I’m enjoying some right now, in fact.
Sorry for the absence, finals, moving out, all that jazz. The good news is: I’ll be spamming you daily from now on- FOR SCIENCE!

From The Earth Story Facebook:

While it certainly looks as though someone has taken a great deal of paint to these hills, these colours in fact formed naturally. This unique geological formation is known as the Zhangye Danxia landform, found in southern China. It was formed by sediments laid down in a low-elevation fault basin during the Cretaceous period, which then experienced uplift due to their position on top of various fault zones. The various colours are a result of the erosion of the thick-bedded red sandstone and conglomerate: from running water erosion, biological effect, chemical precipitation and organic staining.
